As WWE and sports fans, there is nothing more excited than a major shake up in the form of a draft. Unlike sports, WWE is drafting stars who are already here. Richard and I decided to draft our own rosters with each of us taking hold of a brand getting 25 picks each. Richard received the first pick as he took Raw and I decided to take Smackdown…
Draft Results:
1- Seth Rollins – Raw
Obvious No. 1 pick. I even offered the top selection to Michael so he could get his fanboy. He’s the closest we’ve had to prime heel Edge on the mic and prime HBK in the ring. Five tool super duper star.
2- Kevin Owens – Smackdown
If I would have had the number one pick, Seth Rollins was my guy. I will gladly take Kevin Owens as a consolation prize. He is the funniest heel in wrestling right now and he plays the part magnificently.
3- Brock Lesnar – Raw
Though I can only use him a few nights a year, that oddly makes his appearances mean more. Every time he steps into the ring its an EVENT.
4- Dean Ambrose – Smackdown
I grabbed hold of the current WWE champion here as Ambrose has proved time and time again that he has a hold on the crowd. What I love about Ambrose is that he can be a top babyface, but he can also do well in the role of a heel. I remember when many believed he would be the member of the Shield who would get the massive push.
5- AJ Styles – Raw
Hottest main roster wrestler remaining with Ambrose off the board. Can be a face or a heel masterfully and work with anyone. Lots of storyline potential as I’ll get to later.
6- Roman Reigns – Smackdown
Despite all the Roman Reigns hate, I still don’t think he is THAT bad. Many fans are just a bunch of hipsters who hate the establishment. I would want to use him in a different capacity possibly turning him heel.
7- John Cena – Raw
Hate him or love him, you have an opinion. His career potential has been wasted in the past 6-8 years in the name of selling merchandise, but few elevate programs like Cena can.
8- New Day – Smackdown
I went ahead and grabbed one of the best groups in the last few years here. What’s not to love about the New Day? Because NEW DAY ROCKS.
9- Finn Balor – Raw
Highest ceiling NXT performer by a mile and some history with The Club in another promotion that can certainly be tapped into.
10- Sami Zayn – Smackdown
For the record, Richard is a piece of shit for stealing Finn Balor from me. I decided to take Sami Zayn who can be one of the more consistent babyfaces for the brand. Plus I have Kevin Owens. If ever in doubt, throw those two back at each other.
11- The Club – Raw
Certainly a reach with some of the other stables and singles wrestlers on the board, but there’s just too much storyline potential to risk losing AJ’s backup to Smackdown. Great workers who play the second banana role perfectly.
12- Sasha Banks – Smackdown
I jumped on the women’s division here grabbing Sasha Banks because she is a legit boss and since Richard stole Balor from me, I wasn’t letting him sneak away with Sasha too. On my brand, she becomes a 10 year champion. I don’t care what you say.
13- Enzo and Cass – Raw
Hottest tag team right now. You’ll notice a trend with the tag teams that I pick later on. More on that later.
14- Cesaro – Smackdown
Cesaro is always a great filler for the mid card. He isn’t the best talker, but he makes up for all that with his strength inside the ring. Every match I watch, he does at least one thing that I just sit there thinking, “how the hell did do that?”
15- Jericho – Raw
Full time about half the year but ALWAYS willing to put over the next generation of talent in a way that makes them so much better for it. One of my all time favorites for not only his talents in the ring and on the mic but also because he’s never needed to be “The Guy.”
16- Shinsuke Nakamura – Smackdown
Although I was sad to miss out on Jericho, I am happy to get Nakamura here. He is one of the most charismatic people I have ever seen grace a ring. The King of Strong Style can certainly make his way near the top of the roster. I expect major things once he debuts on the main roster.
17- Charlotte – Raw
Scared for two rounds that Smackdown would take Charlotte and own the women’s corner and lead me in titles 3-0, so I couldn’t wait anymore. If you’d watch one episode of WWF Superstars from the 1980s and one episode of Raw today, you’d see the same special quality in both Charlotte and her father.
18- Randy Orton – Smackdown
RKO OUTTA NOWHERE! Polished veteran who can play the face or hell role well. Always a fan favorite.
19- Bayley – Raw
Every great heel champion needs a white hot face chasing her title, and by all accounts Bayley has the potential to give a new meaning to what it means to be a women’s wrestler. No one has appealed to little girls like Bayley has in NXT, and I expect a bright, bright future.
20- Wyatt Family – Smackdown
Again, Richard with the robbery. I decided to take the Wyatt Family and add more to the tag team division. I also get a guy who could be a top star who WWE has not helped in Bray Wyatt.
21- Dolph Ziggler – Raw
Tremendous in-ring worker who can excel as both a face and a heel and at both the top and middle of the card. Amazing range as a worker and can work and shine with anyone.
22- American Alpha – Smackdown
If you haven’t seen them, you’re missing out. Jason Jordan and Chad Gable are freaking amazeballs and when I eventually get Kurt Angle to come back as Commissioner of Smackdown, he will be managing them to reform a better Team Angle.
23- Samoa Joe – Raw
Another great worker. Was a top performer in TNA, and I can’t want for his big-show debut. Someone else who has a history with Styles that can be tapped into.
24- Rusev – Smackdown
He was just there, so why not? It can’t possibly be any worse than what he is currently.
25- The Miz – Raw
Thrilled he fell to me. My second champion and a desperately needed heel on my roster. The addition of Maryse by his side has given him something extra after his charter had been stale over the last few years. The ability to excel hosting a talk show to kill booking time is an underrated trait too.
26- Neville – Smackdown
The man that gravity forgot has been out of action for a while, but he’s entirely too exciting not to have on your roster. Could definitely use him on the mid card.
27- Social Outcasts – Raw
I love these guys, but more importantly, how easilly and awesomely could Enzo and Cass mock these dudes?
28- Becky Lynch – Smackdown
Since that sick bastard Richard stole Bayley from me, Becky Lynch will suffice. I’ll take the Irish Lasskicker and the last of the four horsewomen.
29 – The Usos – Raw
I don’t get it, but they’re over as faces. That’s not easy to accomplish and they’ve done it. Now even with two face and two heel tag teams.
30- Asuka – Smackdown
Had to take another woman here to give some more life to the division. She has impressed the hell out of me in NXT and I think she will be a formidable main roster performer.
31- Paige – Raw
Insurance in case Bayley isn’t as over on the big roster as I’m expecting. Good worker and solid face or heel. Can hold the title for stretches although a clear step below the elite of the women’s division.
32- Emma – Smackdown
One more won’t hurt.
33- Austin Aries – Raw
Did tremendous heel things in TNA. Now in NXT, I’m betting he can find that magic again. Definitely a futures play here.
34- Natalya – Smackdown
Ok, last one for a while.
35- Golden Truth – Raw
Over enough to matter and, again, think about the possibilities of being mocked by Enzo and Cass.
36- Triple H – Smackdown
I will gladly take three matches from the game per year and at the very least, have him as GM.
37- Breezango – Raw
Ditto.
38- Vaudevillains – Smackdown
At this point, my tag team division is whomping Richard’s.
39- Darren Young – Raw
Made this list before he won the battle royal to become the No. 1 contender for the IC title. Anytime Bob Backlund is on TV I’m in, and I can’t wait for the return of the cross face chicken wing.
40- The Revival – Smackdown
Yes ma’am, I’ll have another!
41- Naomi – Raw
One of my favorte divas. Awesome at playing a bitch. Great look, good in-ring worker. Married to one of the Uso’s which could be a storyline possibility also.
42- Lucha Dragons- Smackdown
Two birds one stone here with Kalisto as a decent singles competitor and another filler tag team.
43- Sheamus – Raw
Boring but over. Too easy of a pick this deep into the draft – espically when I’m a bit bereft of heels. At the very least, the You Look Stupid chants are a nice addition to any show.
44- Zack Ryder – Smackdown
WOO WOO WOO YOU KNOW IT. Somewhere, my good friend Matthew Fryou is smiling for this pick. Vastly underrated performer and the fans love him.
45- Titus O’Neil – Raw
There’s potential here even though I’m starting to wonder if he’s ever going to reach it. This late in the draft, sure, I’ll take a flyer.
46- The Rock – Smackdown
He is still listed on the roster so it counts. After all, we need to see him and HHH go at it, one more time.
47- Tamina – Raw
Backup for Naomi.
48- Apollo Crews – Smackdown
One of the best athletes in WWE today and he fell in my lap at 48 so of course I am taking him.
49- Alberto Del Rio -Raw
Can’t believe 48 superstars/tag teams were drafted before ADR. Sure, most of his momentum is gone from when he was on track to be a consistent main event guy several years ago, but there’s no doubting his talent.
50- Baron Corbin -Smackdown
Another young talent who WWE is looking to give a big push after the draft. If the push fails, he fills out the mid card nicely.
Now that we have the draft portion completed, take a better look at each roster broken down and tell us what you think…
