Today is a day I am thankful for. The reason being that my wife’s dream (being a mom) officially came true when we found out in January that she was pregnant with our boy.
Although our child is not here yet, there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn’t celebrate. She will have to sacrifice a lot for this little booger, so yeah we’re celebrating this for her.
If anyone would like to test me on that, I’ll phenomenal forearm the hell out of you. Sorry not sorry.
As I alluded to in my last post, the process wasn’t the smoothest. Although, I will never dive into the full detail of everything that happened. Just know that as a husband, it killed me to watch it all unfold.
To give you an idea of how I felt about the situation without going into detail, I would advise watching the clip from the Friends episode “The One with the Birth Mother.”
(SPOILER ALERT) Chandler and Monica struggled to conceive and eventually adopted. Well the girl they were adopting from wanted to back out because they had lied about who they were.
Although their situation in the show was far worse than ours, I love the quote that Chandler said to persuade the girl to choose them.
“My wife’s an incredible woman. She’s loving and devoted and caring. And don’t tell her I said this, but the woman’s always right… I love my wife more than anything in this world. And I… it kills me that I can’t give her a baby… I really want a kid. And when that day finally comes, I’ll learn how to be a good dad. But my wife… she’s already there. She’s a mother… without a baby… Please?”
That last line is exactly how I felt during all of it.
So what did I do? I did what any sensible man would do. I bought my wife a gift basket full of goodies. I wrote her a note that is for her eyes only. I want her to know that she is amazing and I can’t ask for a better mother for our sweet little _______. (You’ll know the name soon enough)
Here is to the first of many for my wife…1,2,3 drink!
