With Survivor Series set to take place tonight, here are my ultimate SS teams.
They will be broken down into five eras…
- Wrestlemania Era (1985-1993)
- New Generation Era (1994-1997)
- Attitude Era (1998-2001)
- Ruthless Aggression Era (2002-2008)
- PG/Universe Era (2009-Present)
The rules are simple. Pick five wrestlers from that era. No wrestler can be used more than once. So make sure you want that version of the wrestler. If you pick someone like Kenny Omega, I will make fun of you for it you fucking hipster.
As a bonus, I am adding the stars of tomorrow category because I felt like I couldn’t add the guys who are relatively new to the WWE ring.
Wrestlemania Era
Macho Man Randy Savage
Rowdy Roddy Piper
Ric Flair
Legion of Doom (Hawk and Animal)
Verdict: I refuse to put Hulk Hogan in any list of mine because he is a total shit zipper. You cannot have this list without Macho Man, Piper and Flair so those three were a no a brainer for me. Ric Flair is my favorite of all time and the GOAT in my opinion. Piper’s crazy ass has always been one of my favorites. Macho Man is just an icon to say the least. You ask anyone on the street to name a wrestler, macho man will probably come up. I was debating between Andre The Giant, Rick Rude and Ted DiBiase for the last two spots when I thought, fuck it. Let’s go with Legion of Doom. You’re talking about one of the most iconic tag teams of all time.
Just Missed The Cut: Andre The Giant, Rick Rude, Ted DiBiase
New Generation Era
Shawn Michaels
Bret Hart
The Undertaker
Razor Ramon
Sting
Verdict: Again, most of these were a no brainer for me. I loathe Undertaker, but he has to be in there. Michaels, Hart and Razor were going to be on this list without question. Michaels and Razor are two of my favorites to ever grace a ring. Sting was thrown in at the end. Honestly, I had to look up when he transitioned to the black and white “crow” gimmick. Luckily, it fell into this time period.
Just Missed The Cut: Diesel, Owen Hart
Attitude Era
Triple H
The Rock
Stone Cold Steve Austin
Kane
Mick Foley
Verdict: This is my childhood here. This is really when I got heavy into wrestling. As many good wrestlers as they had in the Attitude Era, this one was easy across the board. Triple H is another guy who you could argue as being the GOAT. He is one of the best heels ever. The Rock is larger than life and Hollywood says so. You could not touch him on the mic. Stone Cold can’t be left off because he is everything the Attitude Era stood for. Kane was a fucking monster back in the day before he got old. When his music hit, you knew someone was going to die. Then, you have Mrs. Foley’s baby boy. I can’t leave Foley off this list because he is one of the most underrated wrestlers of all time. Give that man his respect.
Just Missed The Cut: APA, New Age Outlaws
Ruthless Agression Era
John Cena
Chris Benoit
Randy Orton
Eddie Guerrero
Kurt Angle
Verdict: Yeah yeah yeah, get pissed because John Cena is here. He has been the face of WWE for so long and this was his era. He also had a great run as the doctor of thuganomics before becoming a boy scout. I will take that Cena all day. Benoit was one of the best in ring workers EVER. He is the real inventor of suplex city. That, and the flying deadbutt. I am sorry. I can’t help myself. As for Orton, all it takes is one RKO. Remember that, always. Guerrero is one loose boot away from stealing a victory. If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying. Then we have Kurt Angle. He will make you tap. It’s true. Oh it’s damn true.
Just Missed The Cut: JBL, Brock Lesnar, Rob Van Dam
PG/Universe Era
CM Punk
Daniel Bryan
Chris Jericho
The Miz
Edge
Verdict: I feel like this team is a bunch of outcasts. Punk is the closest thing to Stone Cold we have seen since the Attitude Era. He hates authority. He hates the suits. He hates Vince. Bryan is the ultimate underdog and leader of the Yes Movement. Also funny he is still the most over person in WWE. He doesn’t even wrestle anymore. Jericho is a God among men in wrestling. He is 90 years old and was the most over superstar a year ago thanks to the phrases…”it”…”You just made the list”…and “stupid idiot.” Give the guy anything and he turns it to gold. The Miz is a natural heel since his days on the Real World. It is a shame WWE hasn’t used him more over the years. Edge gave a new meaning to the term opportunistic.
Just Missed The Cut: Wade Barrett, Dolph Ziggler
2017 Stars
AJ Styles
Finn Balor
Seth Rollins
Kevin Owens
Samoa Joe
Verdict: All of these guys began their WWE runs in NXT, minus AJ Styles, who was my first choice. From the second he debuted when he entered third in the Royal Rumble, he was over. He may be the best on the roster right now. This team is the house that AJ Styles built. Following AJ is former fellow former Bullet Club member, Finn Freaking Balor. He is one of the reasons I am thrilled my son is named Finn. Ironically enough, Seth Freaking Rollins is next. Both of their middle names are Freaking…crazy right! Seth is right up there with AJ for best on the roster. Then you have Kevin Owens who is a heel in every sense of the word. He is a total asshole who never break character. My team get GLORIOUS with my fifth choice of Bobby Roode.
Just Missed The Cut: Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode, Cesaro
