Unapologetically Me

Thank you Colonels for a Season We Will All Remember!

Dear Nicholls Football,

I hope every player and coach on staff reads this letter because I think I can accurately speak for the Colonel Nation when I say 2017 is a year we will never forget. I just wanted to say thank you. Dilly

For four years, I worked for a football regime that won 10 games. For four years, I filmed practice and games just praying to get in and get out and not have hours of game film to splice. For four years, I just hoped we could maybe be competitive. Hell, even if we did not win, just be competitive. By that, I mean keep it within two scores. That is how low my standards had become.

Thanks to the mythological figure that is Tim Rebowe and the rest of the new age Colonels, I can say for the first time actually ever, now that I think about it. It is a great time to be a mother fucking Colonel. Alumni can now say their school with a deep sense of pride and not have to defend it and we can hold our swords higher than the sky.

When I heard that Nicholls received the bid for the first home playoff game in school history, I lost it. I was sitting on my couch when I found out. I turned around and told my wife that I wasn’t missing it. Due to being a new dad, that comes with some sacrifices. However, going to the game for the school I will support and defend until the day I die in their first playoff game since 2005 and first home playoff game in school history was not something I was willing to bend on.

I know how big of a deal this was for this program and school. It was fucking amazing being one of 9,000 faces in the stands cheering in support of this team. Win or lose it was going to be a great day to be a Colonel. Simon

Unfortunately, we could not lock up the W. I am still petty over the officiating and watching the season slip after a stoppage was made due to crowd noise. Those refs are buttholes and evidently have room temperature IQs, but I don’t want to focus on that.

Even though this team came up short, you guys left it all on the field this season and I can tell this team is destined for greatness. I worked for the program when guys didn’t care. They gave up. They were focused on themselves. It wasn’t a pretty site.

The Rebowe era is none of those things. This team is hungry. This team plays for one another. This team believes they will win every game. This team is filled with pride. This team knows no boundaries. This team is one I am fully behind.

The worst loss of the season to Sam Houston 66-17 was a total let down and gut punch. Sometimes, those can be blessings in disguise. I remember talking about it with one of my fellow Colonels and we both said this could be a good thing. It can bring you back down to Earth and remember that nothing is a guarantee, especially in sports. You have to fight and earn every victory big and small.Simon.gif

How did you guys respond? The Colonels followed it up with curb stomping of Lamar 41-14 ON THE ROAD. You weren’t back in John L. Guidry. No, you were playing in Beaumont after traveling to Huntsville a week earlier. You just had your teeth knocked in. You responding with a statement game in which you put the game away quick. If that isn’t resiliency, I don’t know what is.

This group has moxie, passion and fire burning to be the best. That is exactly what the school needs and deserves.

The new regime is here and ready to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And they’re all out of bubble gum. I call for Nicholls to rename the intersection heading to the field house Tim Drive and Rebowe Lane because we know anyone that crosses Tim Rebowe dies.

I truly believe 2017 is just the beginning for these Colonels, assuming Rebowe stays. I think I speak for the rest of Colonel Nation when I say thank you for a season we will always remember. Hold your heads high because you guys are awesome and we are all chomping at the bit for 2018.

As always, it is a great time to be a fucking Colonel babayyyyyy! We live and die by the sword.

Sincerely,
Michael Freaking Hotard
