March Madness 2020 Ultimate Pop Culture – Disney World Bracket Selections
I love March Madness for reasons that differ from most. Most people love March Madness for being the pinnacle of College Basketball. For me, I couldn’t care less about the sport. I love March Madness because it gives me an excuse to do a tournament style bracket comprised of whatever topics appeal to me. For those who gave me suggestions, thank you! I am excited to see how this pans out.
If you follow me on Facebook and IG, the four brackets have been determined along with the four sub topics for each bracket. The four brackets will be the following…Disney World, Best TV Shows per Streaming Service, Best of Sports and Best of the 90s (my childhood).
Each day this week, I will be releasing the selections for each bracket. Today, I am starting with Disney World.
My wife and I are massive Disney Dorks. It is the only vacation spot we frequently visit and we are both more than ok with that. We always have a magical time when we go. So I figured why not do a Disney World bracket? As I alluded to earlier, each bracket will have four sub topics. For this bracket, we have the following…
- Disney World Rides
- Disney World Parks
- Disney World Character Meet and Greets
- Disney World Restaurants
Soon enough, we will have a vote on the best of the best that Disney has to offer across the board. As you can see on the bracket, the sub topics will be competing against each other before the semis where the winner of each sub topic will battle it out for supremacy over the entire bracket.
*Disclaimer: I am excluding Star Wars rides such as Millennium Falcon Smuggler’s Run and Rise of the Resistance due to being brand new and I haven’t ridden the latter.*
Let the countdown to the number one seed begin…
- 16 – Expedition Everest (Ride 4)
Animal Kingdom’s biggest thriller has been a favorite of mine since making my grand return to Disney World in 2007, one year after it’s opening. My wife and I once rode this during magic hours 12 times in a row. It was absolutely glorious. No matter how many times I ride it, that backward drop still hits the pit of stomach.
- 15 – Tarzan (Character 4)
We are talking about meet and greets and Tarzan is one of the most fun. He is incredibly awkward much like when he meets Jane in the movie. The last time we did a meet and greet with Tarzan, he got uncomfortably close to my face and grabbed my wife’s hair and sniffed it. If you like fun characters, he is up there.
- 14 – Be Our Guest (Restaurant 4)
Since opening in 2012, we have done breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant. I love all three meals there. Although, I was a little disappointed during breakfast because the Feast a la Gaston didn’t come with five dozen eggs. I was hoping to be the size of a barge. But beggars, can’t be choosers I guess.
- 13 – Epcot (Park 4)
Seeding the parks has become more difficult thanks to all the expansions Disney has done. Coming in fourth is Epcot and it is not a slight at the park. They have to be ranked though. The World Showcase is obviously the primary attraction. My wife and I absolutely love Food and Wine Festival as well as the Flower and Garden Festival. Do yourself a favor and go during both.
- 12 – Animal Kingdom (Park 3)
Coming in third for the parks in Animal Kingdom. If not for Pandora, this probably would rank fourth. Pandora is one of the best land’s in all of Disney World. They did such an amazing job it. It truly is breathtaking when you see it for the first time. People love Disney because of shit like that.
- 11 – Chef Mickey’s (Restaurant 3)
With or without kids, we have always loved Chef Mickey’s in the Contemporary. It is buffet style and anytime I can get Mickey Waffles, that is a dub. What makes the breakfast fun is obviously the character meet and greets with all of the Disney classics.
- 10 – Mad Hatter (Character 3)
While Tarzan is obnoxious for not knowing how to interact with people, Mad Hatter is obnoxious for very different reasons. He is loud and makes a scene anytime he walks into a room. He asked me my name when eating breakfast at 1900 Park Fair, I told him Mike and he obnoxiously screams “OH YOUR NAME IS MIKE?!? LIKE MIKE…ROPHONE. MICROPHONE!” Yeah thanks bro, I got it the first time.
- 9 – Toy Story Mania (Ride 3)
It may not be a thrilling ride, it is certainly a fun one though. If there is one thing I am, it is competitive. You’re sitting in a car with someone while trying to destroy them in a series of interactive Toy Story themed games. My wife has unfortunately been kicking my ass the last few trips. That needs to stop.
- 8 – Flights of Passage (Ride 2)
I have only ridden this once and that was all it took. It was like Soarin’ (another great ride) on steroids. In the movie Avatar, the Navi are emotionally connected to the world around them. I love that this rides hits you physically in a thrilling manner, but also emotionally. You feel exhilarated after riding the Banshee similar to the Navi. It is one of the most well done ride experiences.
- 7 – Gaston (Character 2)
There seems to be a theme of obnoxiousness. There is no character more obnoxious than Gaston. He is an arrogant dick much like in the movie. I love watching him interact with other people and doing so myself. The first time I met him, he pretended to punch me in the face for the photo op. When we met him during my wife’s pregnancy, he asked if we were naming our child Gaston. We told him Finn. His response was “well he’s not in the world yet. So luckily, he doesn’t know his name is Finn.”
- 6 – Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue (Restaurant 2)
Food amazing. Show amazing. Theme amazing. If you are willing to spend some time for an amazing dinner filled with bottomless fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and other wonderful food, do it. You won’t regret it.
- 5 – Hollywood Studios (Park 2)
I love movies so Hollywood Studios has always been my second favorite park. I am a little disappointed they closed The Great Movie Ride which was a favorite, but I am excited for the addition of Mickey’s Runaway Railway. The expansion of Star Wars and Toy Story have catapulted the park into another stratosphere for me and it seems like it has done so for many others too.
- 4 – Magic Kingdom (Park 1)
There is no other option for the best ranked park. People go to Disney World for Magic Kingdom.
- 3 – Le Cellier (Restaurant 1)
Located in Canada of the World Showcase, this is easily my favorite restaurant of all the ones I have eaten at. We can’t book a trip without going to Le Cellier. The Filet Mignon is unbelievable. I love that it is upscale, but kid friendly. You don’t have to feel awkward bringing a kid like you may at Yachtsman Steakhouse.
- 2 – Mickey Mouse (Character 1)
The only thing I have to say about the number one character…
“I only hope we never lose sight of one thing…that it was all started by a mouse.”
- 1 – Tower of Terror (Ride 1)
The entire experience of the Tower of Terror is awesome from the cast members to the Hollywood Tower look to the showing of The Twilight Zone to the ride itself.
Best Rides – Tower of Terror, Flights of Passage, Toy Story Mania, Expedition Everest
Best Characters – Mickey Mouse, Gaston, Mad Hatter, Tarzan
Best Restaurants – Le Cellier, Hoop Dee Do Musical Review, Chef Mickey’s, Be Our Guest
Best Parks – Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Epcot
