THE WINNER…

The Dark Knight

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed to see The Dark Knight come out on top over some of the others across the entire bracket. There were two movies in the final 8 that are definitively better in my opinion than The Dark Knight. That being said, The Dark Knight is still among my top 10 favorite movies of all time. I knew it would be from the first teaser ever released…

I still get goosebumps watching this. I remember being at one of my good friend’s houses and he showed me this. Both of us just sat there in awe from the sheer chaos and sinister sound of The Joker. From the time I saw that teaser to the time of the release, I was hooked. I believe I saw The Dark Knight four times in theatres. Any friend who said they wanted to go or were going to see it, I tagged along. I was obsessed with that movie. Heath Ledger’s performance was nothing short of legendary.

His version of the iconic villain was so dark, twisted and chaotic in the best way imaginable. I appreciate The Joker in all of it’s forms. I loved Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamill, Joaquin Phoenix, Cesar Romero and even Jared Leto. They are all vastly different and memorable in their own ways. While it is hard to rank them for those reasons, Ledger’s just stands out to me. I enjoyed the Christopher Nolan trilogy because it wasn’t the typical superhero flick. They were all so dark and resembled more crime movies than superhero. Maybe that’s why. I believe Ledger’s version played into that style so well.

From the memorable quotes to the charism on screen, it was a performance that should never be forgotten. Kudos to The Dark Knight for scoring the most in the bracket.
